Family History

Albert Beard was the 4th of 9 children born to Ephraim and Mary Beard of 9 Primrose Lane,Glossop, Derbyshire on 28th October 1883. He married May Hill at Glossop in 1904, and in 1907 had a daughter, who they called Mary. By 1911, Albert was working as a coal carter/dealer and May was working as a cotton spinner and were resident at Station Road, Hadfield, Glossop. Sometime after 1911, May was known to be living at 42, John St., Worksop, Notts, giving the reason for Albert’s inclusion on the Worksop Memorials.

Military record:- Army Reserve 9/12/15 ; Entered 8/8/17 ; Draft for BEF 3/12/17, joined Nelson Bn. 4/1/18-12/1/18 Trench Foot, Invalided to UK 21/1/18 ; Draft for BEF 31/7/18, joined Hawke Bn. 27/8/18-28/9/18 wounded. Died of wounds in 38th casualty clearing station (GSW to chest 28/9/1918)
