Father: Frederick Griffin, born in 1868 at Nottingham and working as a machine smith. Mother: Emma Griffin, born in 1870 in Nottingham. Albert Griffin had six brothers; Frederick, born in 1888, Francis, born in 1892 and working as a tailor, Arthur E., born in 1898, Samuel, born in 1902, Ernest, born in 1910 and Sidney, born in 1911. he also had four sisters; Elizabeth, born in 1890, Mabel, born in 1894 and working as a lace joiner, Ethel, born in 1904 and Nellie, born in 1906. All the children were born in Nottingham. They family lived at 12 South Street, Nottingham before moving to 20 Healy Street, Meadows, Nottingham.
Pte. Griffin was called up to serve and after training he was drafted to France. The Germans launched their second offensive, Operation Georgette, in Flanders in April 1918. On the morning of 10/04/1918 the division, including 22nd Battalion, Northumberland Fusiliers, was moved back as a result of german pressure. The 22nd battalion moved by companies under enemy fire, which began to increase. Along with the 23rd Battalion they reached the Estaires-Lys line and took up defensive positions. It was on that day that Pte. Griffin was killed in action. His body was never recovered, but his name was commemorated on the Ploegsteert Memorial.
