George was born in 1894 in Hucknal and was the son of William a licensed victualler and Mary Ellen Murfin née Mowe of Court House Green, Foleshill, Coventry. His father William was born in 1868 in Mansfield, his mother Mary Ellen Mowe was born in 1870 in St Helens Lancashire, they were married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Foleshill Warwick Registration District, they went on to have 3 children all born in Hucknall , Gertie b1892, George b1894 and Mary b1901. In the 1911 census the family are living at The Peacock Inn , Market Place Nuneaton and are shown as William 43yrs a licensed victualler, he is living with his wife Mary 41 yrs and their children Gertie 19 yrs (described as an invalid - spine) George 17 yrs a barman assisting his father and Mary 10 yrs a scholar, also listed in the Inn are 15 boarders

Military History

Corporal George Murfin M.M. enlisted at Nuneaton whilst residing at Coventry, he served with the 93rd Company, Royal Engineers. He landed in France on 16th July 1915 and was killed in action on 23rd March 1918, he has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Poziers Memorial
