Edward Ganton

Edward Gauton was born in 1888 at Hucknall and was the son of John Edward Gauton a coal miner and Emma Gauton née Crump of 26 Elizabeth Street, Rock Mount, Hoyland, Yorkshire. His father John Edward was born in 1857 at Madeley, Shropshire and his mother Emma Crump was born in 1859 in the Forest of Dene, Gloucestershire, they were married in 1876 their marriage was recorded in the Walsall registration district, they went on to have 15 children, sadly 5 were to die in infancy or early childhood, their children were, John Henry b1878 Broxwich, Sarah b1881 Hucknall, Lavinia b1882 Langwith,Harriett b1884 Basford Sabina b1885 Hucknall, Amy b1886 Hucknall Edward b1889 Hucknall, Aleathia b1891 Hucknall, Ernest b1893 Kirkby in Ashfield, Harry b1897 Kirkby in Ashfield, Olive b1899 Kirkby in Ashfield, Ivy b1901 Jump and Owen b1904 Jump. Edward Gauton married his wife Florence Mary Baker (born 10th December 1887 ) in 1907 at Barnsley they were living at 19 Milton Road, Barnsley, they had 3 children, Herbert born 21st July 1908, Edward born 21st September 1909 and Arthur born 15th July 1913. In the 1911 census the family are living at 26 Elizabeth Street, Rock Mount, Hoyland and are shown as Edward Gauton 54 yrs a coal miner he is living with his wife Emma 52 yrs and their children, Ernest 18 yrs a coal miner hewer, Harry 14 yrs a coal miner hewer, Olive 12 yrs a scholar, Ivy 10 yrs a scholar and Owen 7 yrs of age. In the same 1911 census Edward is living at 34 Meeson Road, Jump near Barnsley and are shown as Edward Gauton 22 yrs a coal miner, he is living with his wife Florence 23 yrs and their children, Herbert 2 yrs and Edward 1 year of age.
