William John Parker was born in 1895 at Nottingham and was the eldest son of John William an engine driver and Mary Elizabeth Parker née Harrison of 14 Paxton Street, Gordon Road, Nottingham. His father John William was born in 1870 at Nottingham, his mother Mary Elizabeth Harrison was born in 1871 also at Nottingham, they were married in 1893 at Nottingham and had the following children, William John b1895, Cyril Francis b1897, Elsie Louisa b1902 and Clarice Edith b1908 all were born in Nottingham. In the 1911 census the family are living at 17 Ebenezer Square, Clarence Street, Nottingham and are shown as John William 41 yrs an engine driver, he is living with his wife Mary Elizabeth 40 yrs a lace machinist and their children William John 16 yrs a stoker, Cyril Francis 14 yrs an office boy, Elsie Louisa 9 yrs a scholar and Clarice Edith 3 yrs of age.

Military History

Private William John Parker enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 4th battalion Grenadier Guards and landed in France on 16th December 1915 . He was killed in action on 25th September 1916 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Theipval Memorial, Somme, France.
