John Thomas Anthony

John Thomas Anthony was born in 1886 at Eastwood and was the eldest son of Thomas a coal miner and Elizabeth Anthony née Poxon of Castle Street, Hill Top, Eastwood. His father Thomas was born in 1865 at Eastwood, his mother Elizabeth Poxon was born in 1867 at Greasley, they were married in 1886 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 13 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood, their children were , John Thomas b1886 Sarah b1888, Phoebe Annie b1891 all were born in Greasley, they had further children, Lucy Emily b1893, Mabel b1894, born at Eastwood, they had a son William b1896 at Stamford, Yorkshire, then Walter Henry b1899, Elsie May b1901, Alice b1904, Francis b1906, Mary Lizzie b1907 and James b1910 all were born at Greasley. In the 1911 census the family are living at Castle Street, Hill Top Eastwood and are shown as John Thomas 24 yrs a coal miner loader, Phoebe Annie 19 yrs working in domestic service, Lucy Emily 18 yrs in domestic service, Mabel 16 yrs in domestic service, William 14 yrs a coal miner pony driver, Walter Henry 11 yrs a scholar, Elsie May 9 yrs a scholar, Alice 7 yrs a scholar, Francis 5 yrs, Mary Lizzie 4 yrs and James 1 year old. John Thomas married his wife Hetty Oakes (born 27th February 1889 ) in 1911 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they lived at Cross Street, Hill Top Eastwood and went on to have a son Jessie Anthony born 17th October 1913. Following his death his widow was awarded a pension of 15 shillings which took effect from 29th January 1917. She went on to marry Oliver Gregory in 1916.
