Sydney was born in Nottingham in 1895 the son of John William a plumber and Alice Mary West (née Stephenson) of 111, Morley Avenue, Mapperley Plains, Nottingham. John William West was born in 1873 at Nottingham, Alice Mary Stephenson was born in 1869 in Stapleford. Married in 1893, they had three children - Frank b.1894, Sidney b.1896 and Amy b.1898. In 1911, they lived at 111 Morley Avenue.

Military History

Sydney West enlisted at Nottingham and landed in France on 26th July 1915. Cement House Cemetery, Ypres, Grave Reference: XIV D 19

Extra Information

His uncle - George Henry West a chief stoker in the Royal Navy , was lost at sea when his ship the HMS Genista was sunk by a torpedo on 23rd October 1916, off the Irish Coast.
