William Henry Newbold was born in 1880 at Birmingham he married Bertha May Cooper (born 1890 Alvaston, Derby) in 1906 at the Derby Registration Office, they lived at 22 Bow Street and 10 Cottage Gardens, Upper Parliament Street, both in Nottingham. They had two sons William Thomas born 6th October 1906 and Sidney Arthur born 19th October 1908
From his pension record, Driver William Henry Newbold enlisted at Nottingham on 23rd April 1915, posted to the Royal Field Artillery he embarked from Southampton on 11th January 1916 landing at Le Harve the following day. He was posted to the Medium Trench Mortar Battery on 16th May 1916. On 12th August 1917 he was transferred to the Royal Field Artillery Depot at Hilsea for employment as an agricultural labourer. He appeared before a medical board on 21st November 1917 where he was declared unfit for further military service. Discharged from the Army on 12th December 1917 he was awarded a silver war badge number 284905. He died on 27th January 1919.
