Family History

Harold Ambrose Lewin was the son of Ambrose Lewin and Mary Elizabeth Regan who married at Nottingham in 1889. Their children included: Joseph William (b.1890), Florrie (b.1893), Ellen/Helen (b.1895), Harold Ambrose (b.1897), James (b.1900), Margaret (b.1902), George (b.1903), Ethel (b.1905), Winifred Maud (b.1907) and Jessie (b.1909). The Lewin family lived at: 24 Schooner Street, Radford [C.1891]; 14 Stansfield Street, Radford [C.1901]; 27 Forster Street, Radford [C.1911]. The Nottingham Evening Post reported that Private A.H. Lewin of 8 Garfield Road, Radford and late of Forster Street, Radford was now missing [n.e.p.25.7.916]; the subsequent death notice inserted by his parents gave the same set of addresses [n.e.p.11.10.1916]. The post-war address provided by the CWGC for his parents was Mozart Street, Radford Boulevard. Ambrose Lewin, a lace maker, died at Nottingham, aged 76, in 1947. His wife, Mary Elizabeth had predeceased him, dying at Nottingham in 1942, aged 72.

Military History

enlisted at Nottingham; as his body was never recovered his name was added to the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France. Additional Information: His brother Private Joseph William Lewin who served with the York & Lancaster Regiment, subsequently died of his wounds on 5 July 1916.
