William Heald (junior) was born in 1896 at Gainsborough, he was the son of William Heald (senior) a plasterer and Mary Ann Clements Heald née Paterson of 19 First Avenue, Forest Town. William Heald senior had a previous marriage to Clara Ann Clapham (1862-1892) with whom he had a son Thomas Frank Heald born 1888 William Heald was born in 1860 at Marsden Moor, Mary Ann Clement Paterson was born in 1862 at Canterbury, Kent, they were married on 28th July 1894 at Holy Trinity Church , Maidstone, they had a further child, Anne born 1899 at Worksop. In 1911 the famil are living at 19 First Ave, Forest Town, Mansfield, William (senior) is 51 yrs and is a plasterer, he is living with his wife Mary Ann Clements 49 yrs and their 2 children, William 15 yrs a colliery worker and Annie 12 yrs a scholar.

Military History

Sergeant William Heald enlisted at Mansfield, he served with the 2/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters, he was killed in action on 27th April 1917 and having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Thiepval memorial, Somme, France.
