Military History

In 1911 he was serving in Hong Kong with 1st Bn King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry. He may have been a police officer prior to military service and fought in the Great War as a regular or he may have left the army between 1911 and 1914 to join Nottingham Police and returned to the Colours as a Reservist. He entered theatre 11/9/14 (Medal Roll) and was posthumously granted the 1914 Star upon application by Mrs LE Sumner 47 Sedgely Avenue Sneinton Dale Nottingham. There is no marriage record for David Sumner and the applicant may have been his sister Lucy with 'Mrs' being an error.
