Family History

Father: John Henry Tweddle, born in 1873 at Carlisle and working as a letterpress printer. Mother: Isabella Tweddle, born in 1876 at Carlisle. They had one other son, Henry, born in November 1910 in Nottingham. The family lived at 56 Loughborough Avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham.

Military History

Pte. Tweddle was called up for service and following training he was drafted to France and the heavy fighting of the German offensives in early 1918. He was killed by shell fire on 24/04/1918 and buried at Adelaide Cemetery, Villers Bretonneux. He was 18 years 9 months old.

Death notification published 7th May 1918 in the Nottingham Evening Post :- “TWEDDLE. – Killed by shell fire, William G. Tweddle, aged 18 and 9 months, Sherwoods, the dearly loved son of Mr. and Mrs. Tweddle, Loughborough-avenue, Sneinton Dale, Nottingham.
