Robert Wallwork Taylor and Eliza Proctor married in1893 at Manchester. They had two sons, Arthur, who was born in Manchester in 1895 and George Gilbert who was also born in Manchester on 7 March 1897. In 1901, the family were living at 208 Wardle Street, South Manchester, where Robert was a foreman iron founder. By 1911 the family had moved and were now living in Hexthorpe, Doncaster at 138 Urban Road and where Robert was still working in the iron foundry industry. Arthur and George, although only 16 and 14 were working in the local railway locomotive company, Arthur as an apprentice pattern maker and George as an office boy. A year later, in 1912, their mother, Eliza died age 43. Shortly after this they moved to Retford where Robert remarried to Mary J Ellis in 1914.
Retford Times 8 Dec 1916 AB George Gilbert Taylor News has been received by Mr and Mrs R Taylor of 23 Moorgate, Retford, that their youngest son, AB George Gilbert Taylor, age 19 years, !st Hawk Battalion, R.N.D. died in hospital in France on November 12th from wounds received in action on November 11th. He had only been in France a few months, having previously been out to the Dardanelles. Prior to joining the Forces he was an iron moulder in the G.N.E.R. Plant Works, Doncaster A.B. George Gilbert Taylor Worksop Guardian 15 December 1916 News has been received by Mr. and Mrs. R Taylor, of 23, Moorgate Retford, that their youngest son, A.B.George Gilbert Taylor, aged 19 years, 1st Hawke Battalion, R.N.D., died in hospital in France from wounds received in action on November 11th. George Gilbert Taylor enlisted 31 May 1915. He was drafted for the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force 5 Dec 1915 and joined the Hawke Battalion at Mudros 7 Feb 1916. His death was put down to killed or died as a direct result of enemy action. He died of wounds in 2/1st South Midland Casualty Clearing Station on 12 November 1916 ans is buried at the Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension, France.
