Frank Machin Braisby was born in 1898 at Plumtree and was the only son of Benjamin a commercial traveller and Sarah Ellen Braisby née Machin of Plumtree Village, Nottinghamshire His father was born in 1844 in Wymeswold, Leicestershire and his mother Sarah Ellen Machin was born in 1854 at Pilsley, Derbyshire , they were married on 15th March 1887 at Plumtree parish church. In the 1901 census the family are living on Village Street Plumtree. His father Benjamin died in 1908 aged 62 yrs his death is recorded in the Bingham Registration District. In the 1911 census the family are still living in Plumtree Village and are shown as Sarah Ellen Braisby head of the family a widow aged 56 yrs and a cottager she is living with her son Frank Machin Braisby 12 yrs a scholar, her sister in law Sarah Braisby 71 yrs a spinster and Charles Skerritt 71 yrs a widow and a boarder.
Private Frank Machin Braisby enlisted at Ilkeston whilst residing at Plumtree, he served with the 10th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 1st May 1918 and is buried in Boulogne Eastern Cemetery Grave Reference: IX 2 23.
