Arthur Jordan was born in 1896 at Eastwood and was the son of George and Clara Jordan née Trueman. His father George Jordan was born in 1859 at Derby and his mother Clara Trueman was also born in 1859 at Cinderhill, Nottingham. They were marred in 1885 (Basford Registration District) and went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Eastwood: Daisy b1891, Hilda b1893, Sydney b1894, Arthur b1896 and Ivy Trueman b1904. In the 1911 census the family was living at 22 Nottingham Road, Eastwood, and shown as George 52 yrs a draper and dealer, his wife Clara 52 yrs and their children Daisy 20 yrs and Hilda 18 yrs no occupations listed, Sydney Robert 17 yrs a draper's assistant, Arthur 15 yrs a scholar and Ivy Trueman 7 yrs.
Private Arthur Jordan enlisted at Hucknall and served with the 13th battalion Royal Fusiliers. He died of shrapnel wounds on 6th August 1916 and was buried at Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension, Somme, France (grave ref. VII.E.43).
CWGC Warloy-Baillon Communal Cemetery Extension: 'The first Commonwealth burial took place in the communal cemetery in October 1915 and the last on 1 July 1916. By that date, field ambulances had come to the village in readiness for the attack on the German front line eight kilometres away, and the extension was begun on the eastern side of the cemetery. The fighting from July to November 1916 on the northern part of the Somme front accounts for the majority of the burials in the extension, but some are from the German attack in the spring of 1918.'
