William Alfred Botwright was born on 7th April 1894 at Walsall, he was baptised on 26th April 1894 at St Michaels Church, Rushall, Staffordshire, he was the son of George a railway engine driver and Hannah Botwright née Hack of 31 Knight Street, Netherfield, Nottingham. George was born in 1867, Hannah Hack was born in 1873 both were born in Carlton they were married on 22nd June 1893 at St George church, Netherfield, Nottingham, they had three children, Emily Louise born 1897 Walsall and Raymond Charles born 1901 at Walsall. In the 1911 census the family are living at 31 Knight Street, Netherfield, Nottingham, George 44 yrs is a railway engine driver, he is living with his wife Hannah 38 yrs and their children, William Alfred 16 yrs an errand boy in printing factory, Emily Louise 14 yrs and Raymond Charles 10 years of age, also living with them is Henry James 55 yrs a railway engine driver, he is a widow and step father.

Military History

Private 5904 William Alfred Botwright enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 9th battalion Northumberland Fusiliers, landing in France on 15th July 1915 he was killed in action on 29th February 1916 and is buried at Spoilbank Cemetery, Belgium.
