Oliver Tailby was born in 1883 the son of Walter a journeyman tailor and Mary Jane Tailby (née Dunkley) of East Farndon Leicestershire. Walter was born in 1855 in Kimcote, Leicestershire, Mary Jane Dunkley was born in 1849 in Laughton, Leicestershire. Married in July 1877, they had eight children, seven surviving infancy - Emma b.1879 Laughton, Geoffrey b.1880 Laughton, Georgina b.1882 Gumley, Oliver b.1883 Gumley, Frank b.1885 Gumley Gertrude b.1887, and George b.1889 Gumley. In 1911, Walter’s parents lived at Foxton, Leicestershire. Walter married Dorothy Richardson in 1905 and they lived at 21, High Road, Beeston with Dorothy’s children Joseph and Dorothy.
Oliver Tailby enlisted at Ilkeston and died of wounds at Rouen. He is buried in Bois-Guillaume Communal Cemetery Extension, Grave Reference: B 8B
