Arthur Newstead was born in 1891 the son of George a council labourer and Rosamund Harriet Newstead née Simms of 15 Hardwick Street Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire George was born in 1856 at Balderton, Rosamund Harriett Simms was born in 1857 at Sutton in Ashfield, married in 1878 at Sutton in Ashfield they went on to have 10 children, sadly 3 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 his parents and siblings were living at 15 Hardwick Street, Sutton in Ashfield, George is 55 yrs and a council labourer. Arthur married Florence May Langton in 1910 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they had two children, George born 1912 and William born 1914, they lived at 20 Hardwick Street, Sutton in Ashfield In 1911 Arthur was living at 20 Hardwick Street, he is 19 yrs and a coal miner hewer he is living with his wife Florence May 20 yrs a cotton spinner.

Military History

Private Arthur Newstead, enlisted at Sutton in Ashfield he served with the 1st Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he died of wounds on 27th February 1916. He is buried in Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension.
