Family History

John Bernard Horabin was born in 1895 at Annesly Woodhouse, and was the son of Thomas Bradley a coal miner hewer and Elizabeth Horabin née Shelron, of Hither Villa, Blidworth His father Thomas Bradley Horabin was born in 1864 at Kirkby in Ashfield and his mother Elizabeth Shelton was born in 1867 at Blidworth, they were married in 1890 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they had the following children, Willis b1892 and John Bernard b1895 both born at Annesley. In the 1911 census the family are living at Lawn House, Annesley Woodhouse and are shown as Thomas Bradley Horabin 47 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Elizabeth 43 yrs and their children, Willis 19 yrs an electrical engineer and John Bernard 16 yrs a colliery banksman also living with them is Elizabeth Mottishaw 75 yrs a widow and described as mother in law.

Military History

Private John Bernard Horabin, enlisted at Kirkby In Ashfield whilst residing at Blidworth he served with 1/5th Battalion Lincolnshire Regiment, he was killed in action on 17th October 1918. He is commemorated on Vis-en-Artois Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.
