James and Mary Webster were both natives of Worksop. All their children were born in Worksop and included, John born 1884, Susannah 1887, James 1889, Clara 1891, Samuel 1893 and George born 1903. The family lived at least 20 years as residents of 29 Low Town Street. John, the eldest married Annie Matthews in Worksop in 1909 and in 1910 had a child who they named Hector John. By 1911, they were living at 26 Creswell Street, Worksop and John was working as an assistant butcher.
Gunner John Webster Worksop Guardian 17 August 1917 Worksop is well represented by her gallant sons on all the fronts in this world-wide war, and amongst the deaths reported this week is that of Gunner John Webster, of the R. G. A. which took place in hospital at Armara, Mesopotamia, and Pte. Webster, who lived at 26, Creswell Street, was 32 years of age, and before the war he was employed by Mr. W. L. Nilan, butcher, Victoria Road. Mrs Webster received a letter on July 20th stating that her husband was seriously ill, and on Monday a telegram was received informing her that he had died from the effects of the heat. Webster was taken ill with fever while on board ship on his way out and he never seemed to have thoroughly recovered. He joined the Army in July last year. Much sympathy is expressed with his widow and four children.
