Family History

Isaac Webster was born in 1892 and baptised on 12th March 1896 at Langwith, the son of Barnabus a coal miner hewer and Mary Ann Webster née Gregory and the brother of Lizzie, John William, Mary Ann, Rose Ellen, Arthur and Beatrice Webster. In 1911 the family lived at 45 Ellis Street Kirkby in Ashfield. Barnabus was born in 1863 at Altoft, Yorkshire, Mary Ann Gregory was born in 1868 at Brinsley, married in 1887 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district. Isaac married Henrietta Evans (born 5th July 1895) in 1914 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 113 Lowmoor Road, Kirkby in Ashfield, They had a child Lily born 19th November 1914. Commencing 14th January 1918 his widow Henrietta was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.

Military History

Private Isaac Webster enlisted on 29th August 1910 at Sutton in Ashfield, giving his age as 18 yrs and 6 months he stated he was a coal miner working for the Butterley Company. Posted to the 1/8th battalion Sherwood Foresters he was embodied at the outbreak of war. He landed in France on 1st March 1915 and was promoted to Lance Corporal on 31st March 1915. he was killed in action on 31st July 1915, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate Memorial.
