Walter was born at Limber Magna, Lincolnshire the son of William Joseph a blacksmith and Annie Elizabeth Blyth of Sturton. In the 1911 census we find the family living on Cross Street, Sturton , he is 12 years of age and a scholar and he has a younger sister Gladys Mary.
There is no trace of his service record, however Soldiers died in the great War records show that he was born in Great Limber (Limber Magna) Lincolnshire and resided at Sturton le Steeple. He enlisted in Retford in August 1916 and went to France in August 1917.He served with the 2nd/6th battalion South Staffordshire Regiment and died of wounds on 27th December 1917 .He is buried in Etaples Military Cemetery Pte W H Blythe Retford Times 11th January 1918 Pte W H Blythe, South Staffs Regt. As reported in our last issue this brave soldier has succumbed to his wounds. He was well known and highly respected at Sturton le Steeple where he lived. At the time of Joining up he was an apprentice with Messrs Shipley and Co. He joined the Army in August 1916 and went to France in August 1917
