Family History

Cecil Pepper was born in 1896 at Rolleston and was the son of John Thomas a farm labourer and Annie Lydia Pepper née Shelton of Ivy Cottage, Kelham Hill, Kelham Newark Nottinghamshire. His father John Thomas was born in 1859 at Rolleston and his mother Annie Lydia Shelton was born in 1862 at Goverton, they were married in 1877 their marriage was recorded in the Southwell Registration District, they went on to have 7 children, all of whom were born in Rolleston, except their first born Violet who was born in 1877 at Gunthorpe, their other children were, Ernest b1879, Edith b1881, Francis b1891, Ralph b1893, Rose b1895 and Cecil b1896. In the 1911 census the family are living at Rolleston Village and are shown as John Thomas 52 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Annie Lydia 52 yrs and their children, Ralph Paulson 19 yrs a miller in a flourmill and Cecil 14 yrs a groom.

Military History

Private Cecil Pepper enlisted at Newark and served with the 9th battalion Duke Of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment) he landed in France on 15th July 1915 and died of wounds on 3rd November 1915, he is buried at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. grave reference IV.C.12
