Parents: John and Ellen Orton. Ellen had died in 1904 and John may have died in 1902. By 1911 Elias and his siblings are boarding with various families around the area. Wife: Lucy, nee Allen, married 1913. They had a son, Elias J G Orton born and died in late 1915. Lucy remarried after the war, Edwin Ramsbottom, and moved to Doncaster.

On board hospital ship HMS Anglia which was sunk off the Kent coast near Folkstone. She sank in 15 minutes with the loss of 164 personnel including crew, medical staff and wounded men. Elias had been wounded at Ypres

Elias was on the hospital ship HMS Anglia which was sunk by a German Uboat. The ship sank in 15 mins with the loss of 164 men including crews, nurses, doctors as well as injured men. Mansfield Chronicle Advertiser, 23/12/1915; Photograph, Elias Orton of 64 Moor Street, Mansfield was on HMS Anglia and is reported missing and presumed drowned. He had been wounded at Ypres.
