Frederick William Ingham was born in 1894 at Sturton, Lincolnshire and was the son of William a farm labourer and Betsy Ingham née Sutton of 19 Hall Street, Mansfield. His father William was born in 1869 at Sturton, Lincolnshire, his mother Betsy Sutton was born 1871 at Warton, Lancashire, they were married in 1893 their marriage was recorded in the Gainsborough registration district they went on to have the following children, Frederick William b1894, Elsie b1900 Doncaster, Walter b1903 Sturton and Ernest b1909 Edwinstowe, In the 1911 census the family are living at Carter Road, Mansfield and are shown as William 42 yrs a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Betsy 40 yrs, Elsie 11 yrs a scholar, Walter 8 yrs and Ernest 2 yrs of age. In the same 1911 census Frederick William has left the family home, he is a boarder at Clipstone Park, Edwinstow and is shown as being 16 yrs single and a boarder a second waggoner on a farm, he is living with Stephanas Scrimshaw 52 yrs a farm foreman and his family.
Private Frederick William Ingham enlisted on 9th September 1914 at Mansfield, giving his age as 20 yrs and 122 days, his address was Sherwood Hall Cottages, Mansfield, his next of kin was his father William of the same address. He was posted to the 8th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment and landed in France on 2nd March 1915 and was killed in action on 30th July 1915. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Ypres Menin Gate memorial, Belgium.
