Family History

Horace Batty was born into a mining family from Killamarsh, Derbyshire. He was one of eight children born to William and Elizabeth (Duckett) Batty in 1896. When he was 5 years old, Horace and family were living at 2 Upperthorpe Road, Killamarsh and ten years later had moved to King Street, Hodthorpe, Whitwell. He moved to Worksop after this date and was resident at 41 Vernon Street, Worksop.

Military History

Horace Batty enlisted at Worksop and from his Medal Index Card, he is identified as being involved in the Balkan Theatre of war in 1915, before being directed to France where he was killed in action, where he is commemorated at the Loos Memorial.

Extra Information

His brother, William Batty Duckett was also killed only a month later on the 2nd August 1917. Research by Colin Dannatt
