Alfred Algarnon Horace Ransley was born in 1879 at Sundridge, Kent and was baptised on 23rd February 1879 at Sundridge, Kent and was the son of Thomas Fullagar and Sarah Ransley née Coleman of 31, London Rd., Newark. His father Thomas Fullagar was born in 1848 at Woodchurch, Kent and his mother Sarah Matilda Coleman was born in 1847 at Fairlight at Sussex, she died in 1905 at Newark she was 57 yrs of age, they were married in 1868 their marriage was recorded in the Rye district, Sussex, they went on to have the following children, Frances Abigail b1868 Iden, Sussex, Eliza Flora b1871 Kent, Clifton Edward b1873 Kent, Alfred Algarnon Horace b1879 Sundridge, George Bristol Fullagar b1884 Sundridge, Alice Mabel b1884 Sundridge and Spencer Ewart b1890 Sundridge. Alfred Algarnon married his wife Marie Elizabeth Ham (b1874 Plumstead, London) on 14th April 1906 at St Margaret's church, Plumstead, London. In the 1911 census he was living at 35 Sandcliffe Road, Erith, Kent and was shown as Alfred 33 yrs an engineer fitter, he is living with his wife Maria Elizabeth 37 yrs and their children, Albert b1907 Erith and James Alfred 1 month old born Erith, Kent.
Sergeant Alfred Ransley enlisted in 1895 in the 2nd Queen’s Own Royal West Kents, in which he served 12 years. He joined the ‘A’ (Newark) Squadron of the Sherwood Rangers Yeomanry in 1907. Called-up on the embodiment of the Yeomanry and served on the Gallipoli peninsula. Afterwards returned home in with shell shock in Oct. 1915 but returned to his regiment in Salonica in Sept. 1916. He was transferred with the regiment to Egypt and killed in action on Nov. 28th, 1917. Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Jerusalem Memorial, Israel. He had served for twenty-two years service.
