Family History

Arthur Dable Peatman was born in 1891 at Barrowby. Lincolnshire, he was the son of James (Jim) Dable a brass fettler and Sarah Florence Dable néé Peatman of 4 Brownlow Street, Grantham. James Dable was born in 1871 Ancaster, Lincolnshire, Sarah Florence Peatman was born in 1875 Barrowby they were married in 1892 at Grantham, they had 10 children, In 1911 the family are living at 4 Brownlee Street, Grantham, Jim Dable is 40 yrs and a brass fettler, he is living with his wife Sarah Florence 37 yrs and their children including Arthur Dable 19 yrs a grinder. Arthur married Sarah Jane Doubleday, (born 6th September 1892) married in 1912 in Grantham. their children were Mary Ellen born 9th December 1913 in Grantham, two further children Rose born 27th December 1915 and Frederick Arthur born 31st January 1918 both were born in Mansfield. Frederick was only 2 months old when his father was killed. Commencing 14th October 1918 his widow was awarded a pension 29 shillings and 7 pence

Military History

Private Arthur Peatman enlisted at Mansfield, he initially served with the service number 92859 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment. later transferring to the Machine Gun Corps he was killed in action on 28th March 1918 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras memorial.
