Family History

Frederick George Malsom was born in 1897 and baptised on 2nd January 1898 at St Andrews Church, Cardiff he was the son of Harry a chauffuer and Eleanor May Malsom née Pennington and the brother of Reginald Harry b1897 and Beatrice Lilian Malsom b1900. Harry was born in 1869 at Elmore Gloucestershire, Eleanor Mary Pennington was born in 1872 at Gravesend, Kent, they were married on 2nd December 1895 at St Mary's Church Leatherhead, they had 3 children. In 1911 the family are living at The Lodge West Leake House West Leake Leicestershire Harry 42 yrs is a chauffeur, he is living with his wife Eleanor Mary 39 yrs and their 3 children. . His parents later moved to 13 St George's Parade Cheltenham.

Military History

Private Frederick George Malsom attested on 4th December 1915, giving his age as 18 yrs, he was an engineers clerk. Posted to the reserves he was mobilised for war on 30th October 1916 and was posted to the 28th battalion London Regiment The Artisit Rifles. On 14th May 1917 he embarked from Southampton landing the following day at Le Havre. On 30th October 1917 he was reported missing in action and his death presumed. Died at the 3rd Battle of Ypres (Passchendaele) July 31st – Nov 10th 1917 An official report described how 'A Company of the Artists' Rifles were wiped out when attacking Source Trench (which lay near a little stream then in flood called the Paddebeek) where enemy machine guns picked their targets among men held in the knee high suck of the mud.' Having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial.
