Frank Wheatman was born in 1891 he was the son of Henry a coal miner hewer and Hannah Wheatman née Booth of Mansfield Woodhouse. Henry was born in 1847 at Unstone, Derbyshire, Hannah Booth was born in 1848 at Basford, they were married on 2nd February 1868 at Dronfield, they went on to have 9 children, sadly two died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived ast Waverley Villas, Allcroft Street, Mansfield Woodhouse, Henry is 64 yrs and a coal miner hewer, he is living with his wife Hannah 63 yrs and their son Frank 20 ys a shop assistant. Frank married Mary Jerrom (born 24th November 1889) in 1915 their marriage was recorded in the Mansfield registration district, they lived at 94 Baslow Street, Pleasley Hill, Mansfield and later at 2 Bould Terrace, Chesterfield Road, Mansfield, they had a son John (Jack) born 17th June 1916. Commencing 19th November 1917 his widow was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week.
Gunner Frank Wheatman, enlisted at Mansfield he served with the 251st Siege Battery Royal Garrison Artillery, he was killed in action 23rd April 1917 and is buried in Roclincourt Valley Cemetery.
A report published 11th May 1917 in the Mansfield Reporter and Sutton Times reads :- “Pte. Frank Wheatman, aged 28, son of Mr. Henry Wheatman, of Alcroft-road, Mansfield Woodhouse, is also amongst the slain.
