Family History

Harry was born in 1899 in Sandiacre, Derbyshire the son of Frederick a lace maker and Adeline Whitehead of 'Ivydene' Grove Avenue New Chilwell Nottingamshire. In the 1901 census he is living with his family at his grandparents Joseph and Marys address at West Gate in Chilwell at this time he is 2 years of age. By the 1911 census the family are living at High Road Chilwell and Harry is 12 years of age and a scholar.

Military History

He served as a sergeant mechanic with the 25th Squadron Royal Air Force and died on 4th October 1918 aged 19 years and is buried in Cambrai East Military Cemetery, Nord, France.

Extra Information

He had an elder brother Jospeh Whitead who also served in the Royal Garrison Artillery during the Great War and who died on 3rd July 1918 aged 23 years.
