Family History

George Clarke was born in 1894 the son of Henry Rose a coal miner hewer and Sarah Jane Clarke, née Coleman of 2, The Villa, Pinxton, Derby Henry Rose Clarke was born in 1864, Sarah Jane Coleman was born in 1867 both were born in Selston, married on 26th December 1887 at St Helens Church Selston they went on to have 13 children, sadly 6 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at Station Road, Selston with their parents Henry Rose and Ann Clarke. George married Alice Turner in 1917 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they lived at 23 Sherwood Rise, Nuncargate, Kirkby in Ashfield.

Military History

Lance Sergeant George Clarke enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Pinxton. He was killed in action on 3rd May 1917 , having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
