He was the son of Thomas Pollard and Elizabeth Richards. Thomas died on 23 April 1890 aged 37 and Elizabeth on 9 November 1935 age 74 years. They had three children, John Thomas, Mary and James Redgate.

Family grave and headstone, Bulwell (St Mary) churchyard: 'In loving memory of our dear mother, Elizabeth Richards, died Nov. 9th 1935, aged 74 years. Rest after weariness. Also Thomas Pollard, her beloved husband, died April 23rd 1890 aged 37 years. Also their beloved children, John Thomas & Mary & James Redgate Pollard killed in the Great War, 1914-1918. Jesus lover of my soul.’
