Sidney Thomas Roberts was born in 1898 he was the son of Sidney Mellows Roberts a cycle worker and Lizzie Roberts née Wright of 8, Baldwin St., New Radford, Nottingham. Sidney Mellows was born in 1868 at Nottingham, Elizabeth Wright was born in 1870 at Warwick they were married in 1890 at Nottingham, they had 9 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at 8 Baldwin Street, Nottingham, Sidney Mellows is 43 yrs and a cycle worker, he is living with his wife Lizzie 41 yrs and their 5 surviving children.

Military History

Private Sidney Thomas Roberts enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the 1/5th battalion King's Own Yorkshire Light Infantry he was killed in action on 9th October 1917 having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial
