Family History

Harry was born in 1893 in Retford and was the son of Richard a general labourer and Mary Ann Dexter, (nee Brett) of 7A, East St., Retford, Notts. They also have a son James and two daughters Harrriet and Lottie In the 1901 census the family are living at 30 Canal Street, Retford at this time Harry is 8 years of age. By the 1911 census Richard has died and Mary Ann has remarried and become Mary Ann Taylor and is living with her husband Herbert Taylor and her 4 children at Ridgeway Building Retford , Harry is now 18 years of age and a general labourer.

Military History

Harry enlisted in Retford and at first served with service number 13372 in the Shrwood Foresters, he then served with Cyclist Company 11th division, Army Cyclist Corps .His medal card shows the first theatre of War he entered was the Balkans and went to Gallipoli , the date given is 6th August 1915 . He died on 8th August 1915 and he is buried in Pieta Military Cemetery grave reference C XIX 1
