Robert Loney was born in 1898 the son of John, a railway police inspector, and Elizabeth Loney née Goymer of 68 Leslie Road Forest Fields Nottingham and later 21 Beacon Avenue Cleethorpes Lincolnshire. John was born in 1866 at Islington, Elizabeth Goymer was born in 1866 at Dovercourt, Essex , they were married oin 1887 at Wadsworth they went on to have 4 children, their other children were Fred b1888, Annie b1890 and Edith b1899 In 1911 the family were living at 68 Leslie Road, Forest Fields, Nottingham, John is 45 yrs and a railway police inspector,

Military History

Second Lieutenant Robert Loney, 1/5th Battalion Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Regiment, was killed in action on 1st July 1917. He had landed in France on 3rd March 1916 as a private soldier in the Robin Hood Rifles and was discharged to a commission on 27th March 1917.He has no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Loos Memorial
