Family History

Charles Dalton was born in 1891 at Nottingham he was the son of Henry a domestic coachman and Emma Dalton née Clayton of 25 Midland Avenue, Lenton. Henry was born in 1857, Emma Clayton was born in 1852 both were born in Oxton, they were married on 4th November 1880 at St Nicholas Church, Nottingham, they had a further child Henry born 1884. In the 1911 cenus the family are living at 25 Midland Avenue, Lenton, Henry 54 yrs is a domestic coachman, he is living with his wife Emma 59 yrs and their sons Henry 27 yrs a clerk and Charles 21 yrs a lithographic artist.

Military History

Private Charles Darlton enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Lenton he served with the1/7th battalion Sherwood Foresters Regiment, He was killed in action on 1st July 1916, aged 25, in the attack at Gommecourt, France on the first day of the Battle of the Somme. Buried: Bienvillers Military Cemetery, France. Plot 7. Row D. Grave 10.
