Bert was born in Owersby and became the Foster son of Thomas and Sarah J Richardson, of Thornack Grove Cottage, Gainsborough. We first come across Bert in the 1901 census he is 7 years of age and already the foster son of Thomas and Sarah Richardson living in Harpswell Village in Lincolnshire. However by the 1901 when he is 17 years of age he has moved out and is living as a servant, a cowman on a farm and is living with Herbert and Loiusa Harrison at their farm , the Woods Farm a Beckingham.
His service record appears not to have survived however the documents Soldiers Died in the Great War shown that he was born in Owersby, Lincolnshire and that he enlisted at Gainsborough.His meadal cards shown that he first entered a theatre of war in France on 14th July 1915 and was entitled to the three medals , 1915 Star, the Victory medal and British war medal. He was killed in action on 25th November 1915 and he is buried in the Menin Road South military cemetery.
