Family History

Thomas was born at Sturton in 1890 and was the son of Richard Barker Holmes and Annie Holmes they have 3 children In the 1911 census the family are living at Sturton le Steeple including Thomas's elder brother John B and elder sister Annie however Thomas himself has left home and is now residing as a lodger at 16 Ossory Street,Moss Side, Manchester he is 21 years of age single and his occupation is that of provision hand. He is believed to have met his future wife while in the Manchster area and married her, however we only know her initials she became Mrs M. J. Holmes, and they lived at 83, Wilmslow Rd., Withington, Manchester.

Military History

Thomas's service record does not appear to have survived , however Soldiers died in the Great War records show that he was residing at Whitington Lancashire when he enlisted in Manchester.He at first served with the Manchester Regiment with service number 48948 but was later transferred to the Border Regiment. it further states he died at home from wounds .He is buried in St Peters Churchyard at Sturton Le Steeple between the church and the road.
