Christopher was born in 1869 in Beverley, in the 1911 census he is shown living at The Green ,Beckingham , he is 42 years of age, a general labourer in a ship yard, it states he has been married for 14 years to his wife Mary who is 35 years of age. They have 4 children, James born 1899 in Hull, Walter born 1900 in Grimsby, Charles born 1904 Beckingham and Mary born 1905 in Beckingham

Military History

Christopher enlisted into the army at Gainsborough and served with the 1st Bn Lincolnshire Regiment. On Thursday 3rd June 1915 he was killed in action when his battalion were supporting the 6th Cavalry Brigade in the areas of Hooge Wood and Zouave Wood, near Ypres, Belgium. At the time of death the regiment would have taken part in the second Battle of Ypres which began in April 1915 when the Germans released poison gas into the allied lines. Christopher Greenside's name is on Panel 21, at the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres with no known grave.
