Reuben was born at West Stockwith in 1896,the son of George Robert a checmical works labourer and Susannah Atkinson (nee Petrie) He had 5 siblings George born 1888,Edwin born 1892,Florence born 1897,Elsie born 1902 and Clarence born 1909. In the 1911 census the family are living at Pump Yard, West Stockwith Reuben is 14 years of age and an office boy at the local copper works. Following his sons death George was living at 5 Torr Street, Gainsborough

Military History

He enlisted at Gainsborough, Lincolnshire and served with the 8th battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. he was killed in action on 19th November 1916.His name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial on the Somme
