Ernest Allison was born in 1894 at Newark and was the son of William Allison a maltster and Elizabeth Allison , they had the following children, Ernest b1894 Charles Edwin b1898 and James b1901 His mother Allison re married in 1905 at Newark to Arthur Beckett and lived at 12, Queen St., Newark, Notts. In the 1911 census Ernest and his family are living at 2 King's Arms Yard, King Street, Newark and are shown as, Elizabeth Beckett 38 yrs married and a charwoman, she is living with her children Ernest Allison 17 yrs a letter press printer, Charles Edward Allison 12 yrs a scholar, William Allison 10 yrs a scholar, Elsie Beckett 5yrs a scholar, Ivy Bennett 2 yrs and Arthur Beckett 6 months.
Private Ernest Allison enlisted at Newark and served with the 6th battalion Lincolnshire Regiment. He was killed in action on 9th August 1915 in Gallipoli, having no known grave his name is commemorated on the Helles Memorial, Gallipoli.
Article published 14th June 1916 in the Newark Advertiser :- Son of Mrs Elizabeth Beckett, 12 Queen Street, Newark. An active worker in connection with the Primitive Methodist Chapel and at the time he joined the army was a local preacher. Joined soon after the outbreak of hostilities and trained at Belton Park. Was at the Suvla Bay landings, after which reported wounded and missing on August 9th. Declared dead in June 1916.
