Family History

John George Adkin was born in 1899 the son of the late William Adkin a coal miner hewer and Mabel Adkin née Kettleband of 24 Silk Street, Sutton in Ashfield. William Adkin was born in 1861 at Bingham he died in 1907 aged 37 yrs, Mabel Kettleband was born in 1862 at Radcliffe on Trent, married in 1881 their marriage was recorded in the Bingham registration district, they went on to have 11 children. His mother mother remarried in 1908 to John Hill in 1911 they lived at 55 Newcastle St, Huthwaite with their children.

Military History

Private John George Adkin enlisted at Mansfield whilst residing at Sutton in Ashfield, he initially served with the service number 77528 in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment, he died of wounds on 23rd March 1918 whilst serving with the 25th battalion Machine Gun Corps and is buried at Doullens Communal Cemetery extension No 1, France.
