Family History

Ernest Roberts was born in 1895 the son of Alfred a foreman platelayer and Sarah Ellen Roberts (née Weston). Alfred was born in 1863 at Plungar, Leicestershire, Sarah Ellen Weston in 1865 at Great Ponton, Lincolnshire. Married in 1887 near Grantham, they had the following children - Alan Weston b.1891 at Carlton, Walter b.1893 Nuthall, Ernest b.1895 Nuthall, George Arthur b.1898 Nuthall. They also adopted William Edward Barnell Trigg (b.1900 at Nuthall). In 1911, they lived at New Farm Lane Nuthall Nottinghamshire. Alan Weston was a cinematographer operator and Walter a bookbinder’s apprentice. George Arthur and Wiiliam Trigg were still at school.

Military History

Lance Corporal Ernest Roberts enlisted at Nottingham and died of wounds on 27th September 1917. He and is buried in Dozinghem Military Cemetery, Belgium, grave reference VI. F. 8

Extra Information

His brother Private Walter Roberts, 2/8th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire) Regiment, died of wounds on 4th May 1915. He is buried in La Chapelette British and Indian Cemetery, Peronne.
