Family History

Walter Kirk was born in Eastwood , he married his wife Gladys Smith in 1914 their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district and lived at 218 College Street, Long Eaton, they had a son Leonard Godber born 1917. Following his death his widow Gladys was awarded a pension of 18 shillings and 9 pence a week which commenced on 29th April 1918. His widow Gladys re married in 1921 to Francis Smith their marriage was recorded in the Shardlow registration district. They lived at 132 St Augustine Road, Southsea.

Military History

Gunner Walter Kirk enlisted at Ilkeston and served with 'F' Battalion Tank Corps. He died on 19th October 1917 of head injuries caused accidentally whilst on active service and is buried at Rucquoy Road Cemetery, Ficheux, France
