Family History

Charles William, son of Charles Young, a maltings worker from Coddington, was born at Nettleham in Lincolnshire. His grandmother Frances (widow of George Young), had remarried Samuel Beckett in 1898. In 1901 both Charles W and his father were at the Beckett’s home on Balderton Lane, Coddington. By 1911, Charles W was an agricultural labourer, still living in Coddington on Balderton Lane with his grandparents Fanny and Samuel

Military History

Charles enlisted in Newark and served as L/Cpl service number 275042 he arrived in Egypt on 27 Apr 1915.he served with the Nottinghamshire Yeomanry, Sherwood Rangers. Charles was killed in action in Palestine on 28 Nov 1917and is buried in Jerusalem, Yerushalayim (a Jerusalem District), Israel. He was awarded the following medals: 1914-15 Star, British, Victory.
