Family History

Ernest Hind was born in 1893 he was the son of John a banksman and the late Ann Hind, née Roberts and the brother of John Robert Hind and Alice Oates (née Hind). John was born in 1836 at Kimberley, Ann Roberts was born in 1849 at Bottesford, she died in 1908 at Basford, she was 60 yrs of age, they were married in 1870 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they had 5 children, sadly 2 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family lived at The Knowle Kimberley John 75 yrs a retired banksman and widow is living with his married daughter Alice Oates (née Hind ) 37 yrs, Ernest 18 yrs a pit banksman and John Robert Hind 23 yrs a coal miner hewer.

Military History

Rifleman Ernest Hind enlisted at Nottingham, he served with the King's Royal Rifle Corps, he landed in France on 19th May 1915 and died of wounds on 4th July 1915 and is buried at at Bedford House Cemetery, Belgium.
