Family History

George Camplin was born in 1895 at Swaby, Lincolnshire, he was the son of Moses Camplin a farm labourer and Alice Camplin née Myers of Brant Cottage, Swaby, Lincolnshire. His father Moses was born in 1862 at Swaby, his mother Alice Myers was born in 1863 at Donington, Lincolnshire, they were married on 25th April 1889 at Swaby, Lincolnshire, they went on to have 10 children, sadly 3 were to die in infancy or early childhood. In the 1911 census the family are living at Brant Cottages, Swaby, Moses 49 yrs is a farm labourer, he is living with his wife Alice 48 yrs and their children, Ernest 14 yrs a farm labourer, Elsie 9 yrs, David 8 yrs and Edith 6 yrs of age. In the same 1911 census George Camplin has left the family home, he is living at Brewery Street, Kimberley he is shown as being 19 yrs a domestic hardener, he is living with William Wildin 24 yrs a stationary engine driver and his family.

Military History

Rifleman George Camplin enlisted at Nottingham whilst residing at Alford, he served with the 8th battalion King’s Royal Rifle Corps, he landed in France on 20th July 1915 in France, he was killed in action on 20th August 1915 and is buried at Potijze Burial Cemetery, Belgium.
