Alfred Burton was born in 1896 he was the son of Francis George a coal miner contractor and Harriet Burton née Thompson Chambers and the brother of Emily and George Harold Burton of 99 High Street Kimberley. Francis George was born in 1859 at Ripley, Harriett Thompson Chambers was born in 1864 at Cotmanhay, they were married in 1885 their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district, they went on to have 8 children, sadly 4 died in infancy or early childhood. In 1911 the family were living at High Street, Kimberley, Francis George 52 yrs a coal miner is living with his wife Harriett 43 yrs and 3 of their children, Emily 20 yrs, Alfred 15 yrs a coal miner pony driver and George Harold 13 yrs
