John William Attenborough

John William Attenborough was born in 1893 at Greasley and was the second son of Thomas a coal miner hewer and Rosella Attenborough néé Patrick of Raglan Street, Hill Top, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire. His father Thomas was born in 1868 at Greasley, his mother Rosella Patrick was born in 1870 also at Greasley, they were married in 1889 their marriage was recorded in the Basford Registration district, they went on to have the following children all of whom were born in Greasley, Thomas b1891 John William b1893, Herbert b1895, Elizabeth b1896, Lucy b1900, Ada b1904, Elsie b1906 and Evelyn b1908. In the 1911 census the family are living at Raglan Street, Hill Top, Eastwood and are shown as Thomas 43 yrs a coal miner hewer, he is living with is wife Rosella 41 yrs and their children, Thomas 20 yrs a coal miner loader, William 18 yrs a coal miner loader, Herbert 16 yrs yrs a pony driver below ground, Elizabeth 15 yrs working at home, Lucy 11 yrs a scholar, Ada 7 yrs a scholar, Elsie 5 yrs and Evelyn 3 yrs of age. He married his wife Norah Elizabeth Cartwright (born 14th September 1893) in 1912, their marriage was recorded in the Basford registration district. He was living in Bentley Yorkshire with his wife and young child on enlistment.
